Jio 5G in India: Know everything about Reliance Jio’s 5G plans, launch, SIM card, speed

5G auctions (5G auctions) are over in the country. Now we are waiting for the release of 5G network services in India. There is a lot of discussion among all the telecom companies regarding the 5G rollout of Reliance Jio across the country. Let us know that in the 5G auction, Jio has bought the maximum 5G spectrum. It is also possible that Jio will also bring 5Gi standard in the country. If you are a Jio user, then let us tell you here that Jio 5G India launch date, 5G SIM, 5G band support and where Jio’s 5G service can be launched.

Jio 5G Spectrum

Jio bagged 24.7GHz spectrum for Rs 88,078 crore in a 5G auction conducted by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India. Also, Jio made the highest bid. Jio has the largest spectrum pan-India (26.77 GHz). Reliance Jio has bought 5G bands in all popular frequency bands – 700MHz (n28), 800MHz (n5), 1800MHz (n3), 3300MHz (n78) and premium mmWave 26GHz (n258) bands. The 700 MHz band is the most sought-after band here, as it will enable Jio to provide low-cost 5G services in rural India.

Although this lower band will not provide the highest speed, it can cover longer distances. Its download speed will be higher than 4G / LTE. Jio has made its position clear in the low-band 5G spectrum (also known as sub-GHz) that it will provide pan-India 5G services, touching every corner of the country. It has bought 700MHz bands in all 22 circles and some 800MHz sub-GHz bands in 4 circles in India.

Jio 5G launch date

Jio is yet to formally announce the launch date of its 5G service, but recently, Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani said that the company will celebrate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ with a pan-India 5G rollout. It is likely that Reliance Jio will launch its 5G services on Independence Day i.e. August 15, 2022. It is being said that this announcement could be for a pilot trial in select metro cities or locations across India. It will take a month or two for Jio to fully roll out its 5G services in major cities of India. While a phased rollout in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities may happen early next year.

Jio 5G service first in these cities

Jio has bought 5G bands for all 22 circles in the country. So Jio 5G is coming to all regions of India. However, according to a report, the company’s 5G services will initially start in 9 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Jamnagar. Note that this is not a complete list and may include other cities such as Pune, Chandigarh, Gurugram and Gandhinagar. In addition, Jio has completed 5G coverage in over 1000 cities. That’s why it is being said that Jio’s 5G service can soon be seen across the country.

Will Jio 5G SIM be needed?

The Indian telecom operator has not announced that a new 5G SIM will be required to access the 5G network. So if you have Jio 4G SIM, you will be able to use Jio’s 5G service without any problem or SIM upgrade. Earlier in the 2G era the smart card, which we called SIM (Subscriber Identity Module), was based on the old mobile communication standard.

Moving forward, 3G rolled out to USIM (Universal Subscriber Identity Module) and the new smart cards were based on the new 3GPP standard. Technically these new SIM cards are also called Rel 99+ USIM cards, and are compatible with 2G, 3G, 4G and even 5G networks. So if you have a SIM card that works well with 4G/LTE networks, it will work with 5G as well.

Jio 5G upload/download speed

So far Jio has conducted 5G trials in 8 cities and 5G speeds have been observed in varying degrees. A report by 91Mobiles reveals that Jio’s 5G trial in Mumbai offered up to 8x faster download speeds than 4G’s bandwidth. It looks like Jio may bring 420Mbps in 5G upload speeds and download speeds of up to 412 Mbps, which is a big upgrade over 4G speeds in India. While we don’t know if the test was done on mmWave or sub-6GHz band, Jio’s 5G speeds are certainly promising. Interestingly, Jio has built its own 5G network stack.

Jio 5G Plans and Price

It is too early to say what will be Jio’s 5G plans and price in India. However we are well aware of the competitive practices of Reliance Jio. So we expect Jio’s 5G plan to be between Rs 400 and Rs 500 per month. Currently the ARPU (average revenue per user) of Jio is around Rs 175. 5G services will allow Jio to increase its ARPU in a big way in the coming years.

However, keep in mind that Jio may offer two-tier 5G plans for Sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G services. We expect mid-band 5G services to come with better prices. Stay with us for information related to 5G. We will keep you updated from time to time.
