Scientists Discover a New Super-Earth with Possible Water

Humans have always been curious about space, and the search for another Earth-like planet has been going on for years. Recently, scientists have found a massive planet similar to Earth, which might even have water.

The new planet, named TOI-1846b, is located about 154 light-years away from Earth. Scientists estimate it to be around 7.2 billion years old. It is considered a Super-Earth—a type of planet larger than Earth but smaller than ice giants like Neptune.

A team of scientists, led by Abderahmane Soubkiou from the Oukaïmeden Observatory in Morocco, discovered the planet using data from NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). They combined satellite observations with ground-based photometric data and imaging spectra to confirm its existence.

Key Facts About TOI-1846b:

  • Size: About 1.7 times wider than Earth.
  • Orbit: Takes 9.93 days to complete one trip around its star.
  • Temperature: Estimated at 568 Kelvin (around 295°C or 563°F).
  • Host Star: Orbits a star named TOI-1846.

This is the second Super-Earth discovered this year. Another one, HD 20794 d, was found earlier, which is six times heavier than Earth.

Scientists continue to study these distant worlds in hopes of finding signs of life or habitable conditions. Who knows—maybe one day, we’ll find a true “second Earth”!
