Roman Reigns (Liti Joseph Anoa’i) is an American professional wrestler born on May 25, 1985 in Pensacola, Florida. Roman Reigns is currently a part of WWE and his age is 34 years.
The funny thing about Roman Reigns is that he did not do his career with wrestling but with football. In the year 2007, Roman Reigns started his football career in the off-season with the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars of the Nation Football League.
After that in 2008, he moved to Canada and became part of the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. Roman Reigns was released at the end of that season and his football career ended there.
Roman Reigns Football Career
After that Roman Reigns chose professional wrestling as his career and in 2010 he joined WWE. In 2012, he made his main roster debut as a member of The Shield, alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. Roman Reigns began participating in singles matches after The Shield broke up in 2014.
Roman Reigns has been a part of the main event matches of the last four WrestleMania and has been called the face of the WWE company for the past few years.
Joining WWE
Roman Reigns joined WWE in July 2010 and was sent to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). After this, on 9 September 2010, he made his WWE debut under the name Roman Leakey.
Roman lost to Richie Steamboat in his WWE debut singles match. Roman Reigns got his first heat after losing a few matches. In 2011, he teamed up with Donnie Marlowe to form a tag team and challenged Calvin Reigns and Big E Langston to the FCW Tag Team Championship but failed to do so.
Defeated Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose
In 2012, Leakey pinned then-FCW Champion Leo Kruger in a tag team match. After this match, Roman’s career took a new turn when he defeated Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins in a triple threat match for the No. 1 Contender of the FCW Heavyweight Championship.
But then the next week he failed to win the title by defeating Kruger. He then won the tag team title with Mike Dalton.
When WWE changed the name of FCW to WWE NXT, Roman Leakey also changed his name to Roman Reigns and made his debut on October 31, defeating CJ Parker.
He defeated Chase Donovan and then won his last NXT match in The Division on December 5 against Gavin Reeds.
WWE main roster debut
Roman Reigns made his main roster debut as The Shield alongside Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. The trio knocked out the ongoing Triple Threat match between CM Punk, John Cena and Ryback for the WWE Championship in the main event of Survivor Series. Passing through the audience, the trio attacked Ryback.

A tired Ryback couldn’t do anything here and the three debutants kept hitting him mercilessly. The trio together slammed Ryback on commentary, which went on to become his finishing move. With the help of this intervention, Punk saved his title.
The shield
On Raw after Survivor Series, The Shield responded to his attack by stating that he took an oath to fight injustice. He described himself as the ‘Hounds of Justice’. But on several occasions this team would come to attack CM Punk’s opponents, including Ryback and Team Hell Know.
This was followed by a match between The Shield and CM Punk’s three opponents at the TLC PPV, and this was The Shield’s first main roster match. Even after this, The Shield continued to attack CM Punk’s opponent, including on January 28, 2013, he attacked The Rock, the cousin of Roman Reigns. After that episode of Raw, it was revealed that CM Punk and his manager Paul Heyman used to pay The Shield for this work.
The trio then broke their ties with Punk and began their feud against John Cena, Ryback and Sheamus. They clashed at Elimination Chamber on February 17, in which The Shield won. He then fought his first match on Raw against Ryback, Sheamus and Chris Jericho and won it.

Sheamus teamed up with Randy Orton and Big Show to defeat The Shield, and they clashed at WrestleMania 29 in which The Shield won. On Raw that followed, The Shield attacked The Undertaker before being stopped by Team Hell Know.
This was followed by a six man tag team match on 22 April 2013 in which The Shield won. On May 13, 2013, The Shield’s winning streak was halted when they lost to the team of John Cena, Kane and Daniel Bryan in a tag team match by disqualification.
At the Extreme Rules PPV, Roman Reigns teamed up with Seth Rollins to form a tag team and win his first title. After that he also won the rematch against Team Hell No on 27 May 2013. Both defended their title against Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton at Payback, against The Usos at the Money in the Bank PPV and then against Prime Time Players at Night of Champions.
In August, The Shield began working on Triple H and The Authority to change the storyline. The two then lost their title to Cody Rhodes and Goldust in a no disqualification match in which The Big Show interfered. He also lost in the rematch. Roman Reigns was the only remaining member of The Shield in a 5 on 5 Elimination Tag Team Match at the Survivor Series PPV where he set a record and eliminated four opponents. At the Royal Rumble, Roman Reigns entered 15th place and made a record 12 stars out and then was eliminated by Batista.
The Shield attacked Jerry Lawler before WrestleMania XXX but then turned on Kane. After which he started attacking Kane continuously. New Age Outlaws came to help Kane. After which there was a match between the two in the PPV and the Shield won there.
Evolution once again followed a feud against Kane, who was defeated by The Shield at Extreme Rules and Payback. After Batista left the company, Triple H adopted his Plan B, in which Seth Rollins broke The Shield while turning on his brothers.
Work as a singles wrestler
After the break of The Shield, Roman Reigns became a part of the title match. He missed out on winning the title in the ladder match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank. In the next Fatal Four Way match at the PPV Battle Ground, he got a chance to win the title back but this time he lost again. After this Roman Reigns started a feud with Randy Orton, due to which both came face to face at SummerSlam and Roman Reigns defeated Randy Orton.
Meanwhile, Ambrose and Rollins were having a feud to cheat Shield, in which Ambrose was injured and Roman Reigns had to replace him. The two matched at Night of Champions, but before that Roman Reigns fell ill and was out of wrestling for an irregular period of time.
At TLC, Reigns returned to assist John Cena and attack Big Show and Seth Rollins. After this, Roman Reigns faced Big Show in many matches in which Roman Reigns won.
Roman Reigns entered the 19th place at the 2015 Royal Rumble and won it to make it to the main event of WrestleMania 31. After that Roman Reigns had to defend himself against Daniel Bryan in Fastlane PPV and he was successful in it. In the main event between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31, Seth Rollins cashing in his MITB briefcase pinned Reigns and won the title.
Roman Reigns’ feud started back in April 2015 with Big Show, followed by a Last Man Standing match between the two at Extreme Rules. Roman Reigns missed out on winning the title against Rollins in a Fatal Four Way match at Payback PPV. After that he became a part of Money in the Bank PPV in which Bray Wyatt attacked him and he lost.
Roman Reigns lost to Bray Wyatt at Battleground. Roman Reigns teamed up with Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho at Night of Champions but was defeated by Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Braun Strowman. Reigns defeated Wyatt at Hell in a Cell.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion
On October 26, 2015, on Raw, Roman Reigns competed in a Fatal Four Way match against Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler and Kevin Owens. The winner of this match was going to be the number 1 contender of the WWE Heavyweight Championship. Reigns won this match and then he had to give up the title due to the injury of Seth Rollins. A tournament was held for the new champion, and Triple H offered Reigns to join the Authority and play the final directly.
Reigns turned down the offer and fought in the tournament to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Triple H went to the ring to congratulate Roman Reigns and then threw Reigns down the aisle. Sheamus immediately cashed in on his MITB to end Reigns’ title round.
Roman Reigns lost to Sheamus at the TLC PPV when Alberto Del Rio and Rusev interfered in the match. The next night on Raw, Mr. McMahon gave Roman Reigns another chance to win the title. Despite interference from Mr. McMahon, Del Rio and Rusev, Reigns won the title in that match.
On January 4, 2016, Roman Reigns once again defended his title against Sheamus on Raw. After which Triple H forced Roman Reigns to defend the title at the Royal Rumble PPV and that event was won by Triple H.
The Fastlane PPV featured a triple threat match between Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, and Dean Ambrose to become the number one contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 32, which Roman Reigns won. Reigns won the title back in the main event of WrestleMania. Roman Reigns defends his title against AJ Styles at Extreme Rules and Payback PPV but loses to Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank
Grand Slam
After losing the WWE Championship and failing to become a Universal Championship contender, Roman Reigns challenged Rusev to the United States Championship. The clash between the two at SummerSlam did not yield any results.
After that, because of Rusev, Roman Reigns could not become the number one contender of the Universal Championship. In Clash of Champions, Reigns defeated Rusev to win the WWE United States Championship.
On November 28, on Raw, Roman Reigns defeated Universal Champion Kevin Owens in a non-title match, after which he got a chance to challenge the title. The two clashed at Roadblock, with Chris Jericho attacking Kevin Owens to prevent Reigns from winning. On the January 9, 2017 episode, Reigns lost his US Championship to Chris Jericho.
This was followed by a no disqualification match between Reigns and Owens at the Royal Rumble, in which Reigns lost due to interference from Braun Strowman. Entering 30th place at the Royal Rumble, Rance was eliminated by Randy Orton.
Roman Reigns faced the legendary Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 in which Reigns defeated him. He became the second wrestler to do so.
At Extreme Rules, Roman Reigns was part of a fatal five-way match that he lost. On June 19, 2017, on Raw, Reigns challenged the reigning Universal Champion to SummerSlam but was attacked by the returning Braun Strowman. In the Great Balls of Fire, there was an ambulance match between the two in which Roman Reigns was defeated.
Roman Reigns reunited with his Shield brothers Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins in October due to feuds against The Miz, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel, Sheamus and Cesaro, and viewers got to see a Shield reunion. The match between the two teams was fixed in TLC but due to illness, Rance could not participate in this match.
After that Roman Reigns defeated The Miz to win the IC Championship and became the Grand Slam Champion. He became the 17th Grand Slam champion. Roman Reigns lost the title to The Miz in a match on the 25th anniversary of Raw
Universal Championship Race
Reigns was eliminated by Shinsuke Nakamura at the Royal Rumble. He failed to win back the IC Championship from The Miz. Roman Reigns won the number one contender’s match for the Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber. Roman Reigns then faced Champion Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34, in which Roman Reigns was defeated after eating six F5s.
At the Greatest Royal Rumble, the two had a steel cage rematch in which Reigns broke the ring while giving Lesnar a spear. At the SummerSlam PPV, he challenged Brock Lesnar to the Universal Championship and won the Universal Championship for the first time. But then on October 22, 2018, on Raw, Roman Reigns gave up the title, revealing his leukemia disease.
Roman Reigns and movies
Roman Reigns has also worked in many films. He was part of the 2016 movie Countdown. Apart from this, he was also a part of The Jetsons and WWE: Robo-WrestleMania. In 2019, he also appeared in the film ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ of the Fast and Furious franchise, alongside The Rock.
Family
Roman Reigns is from a half Samoan and half Italian family. Wrestling is in his blood as his father Sika Anoi and brother Rosie are also wrestlers. He is a relative of former wrestlers such as Yokozuna, Rikishi, Umaga, The Rock and The Usos.
He was married to Galina Jolie Baker in December 2014. They have a daughter, Jolie. In 2016, Rance’s wife gave birth to twins.
